Your thoughts please....
Hey everyone, looking for your opinions on a potential PEI Presents show for next year. There are three Broadway shows that are being considered: Cats, Evita, & The Producers. Whichever show is chosen (we'd only have one) would play for two nights (weeknights) and tickets would have be at least $75 in Orch A and $50 in the balcony. (We will also have a new theatre map at this time with only two price sections on the main floor, orch A & B, and one in the balcony so this means that over half the seats on the main floor will be $75). Keeping in mind that this is the real deal - actual broadway cast, etc. - what do you guys think, will people pay this much??
We want lots of comments on this folks, all the feedback we can get!

Hi Ash, Personally I would like to see either Cats or The Producers. Cats being my first choice. I think it would have to play in September or October or March or April to get the off Island patrons. I think Islanders may find it too expensive but perhaps if it is actual Broadway Cast then it may sway them.
Hi Ash, I forgot to put my name at the bottom of the first comment I made.

There have been a few similar shows recently in Fredericton and Saint John with similar ticket prices (Rent, Fiddler on the Roof, Joseph), and people (like me) will show up and fork over the $75 gladly. I thought Rent was really well done, but Fiddler was an absolutely poorly produced/acted dud. And Joseph is in the spring... I wonder if it's the same people putting it on.
Anyway, I would nix Evita, because it's deadly dull and depresssing. The Producers would be good only if the lead actors are good. And Cats is a dated show about nothing. Well, it's about cats of course, but it's got no plot. But it does have that long-running credentials, yada yada yada, so I think people would come.
Hi All,
It's a 'one off' so just two nights period. And, yes it's the same as what the Playhouse in Fredericton does. Same touring company. Did you know they are doing Peter Pan, with all the flying!
I don't know a whole lot on the topic, however I am going to have to side with Craig on this one. I think more people would be likely to pay for the producers than the other two options. It would also need plenty of advertising in advance.. not that that is typically an issue, but the ticket price is fairly high.
I'd like to see The Producers myself; everthing that I've heard about it has been good. No matter which show gets the nod, I agree that it might be a bit of a struggle to keep people from getting their knickers in a knot over the price of tickets. On the other hand, it's not as if we haven't heard complaints about the cost of other shows and I'm sure that there are lots of people who, like Lynda, will come no matter what.
Hey All,
I think this is a GREAT idea, however, uninformed islanders would be likely to complain about the cost.Once they learn that it is a touring broadway company I think they might be a little happier. I'm leaning towards CATS because it has the long-running history, I would also nix Evita (like lynda said) boring, unless it's Madonna. "The Producers" has a lot of buzz, all which is good so I hear. I love the prospect of a Broadway Musical @ The Centre. I saw a touring company performance of "RENT" in Toront (it played for 4 days) and it was outstanding!
